Microchipping in San Jose: What You Need to Know

As a pet parent, the thought of losing your dog or cat is probably one that fills you with dread. Unfortunately, companion animals get lost every single day. It only takes a split second for a pet to dart out of an open door or escape from a yard, and all too often, pets who run away are never seen again.

Having your pet microchipped is one of the best things you can do to maximize the chances of being reunited if you are ever separated from your beloved companion. At 4 Paws Mobile Veterinary Service, we offer microchipping in San Jose and the surrounding areas and would be more than happy to perform this simple and potentially life-saving procedure on your pet.

How Microchipping Works

Microchipping is a quick and simple procedure during which a tiny microchip is injected beneath the skin between the shoulder blades using a syringe. The chip is about the size of a grain of rice, and the insertion process feels similar to receiving a vaccine. Microchips do not contain tracking information, nor do they store your personal information. Instead, each chip has a unique number, which is linked to an online account. Once registered, the account contains you and your pet’s information.

If your pet ever gets lost and is brought into a shelter, vet’s office, etc., they will be scanned for a chip. The scanner will display the chip’s number which can then be used to look up your information. As long as you keep your account up-to-date, someone will contact you to help reunite you with your pet.
